Lung Cancer May Be Affected by Red Wine PDF Print E-mail
Mens Health News

According to a new study, men who smoke may find a reduction in their chance of contracting Lung Cancer if they consume a moderate amount of red wine daily.

Red wine has long been studied for the anti-oxidant benefits on the body. However, these study findings are the first to establish a link between consuming red wine and reducing the chance of lung cancer in men who choose to smoke. Researchers noted with caution that smoking is not a healthy practice and the reduction in lung cancer chances is not a good reason to continue smoking.

In the men studied, a 60% reduction in the risk of contracting lung cancer was noted. While a reduction was noted in men who did not choose to smoke, the reduction was not as profound as in the smoking participants. There were no lung cancer risk reductions with the consumption of white wine, beer or liquor.

Researchers will be repeating the study in order to replicate the results and caution men to stop smoking in order to further decrease their risk of lung cancer. The benefits of red wine do not increase with the amount of red wine consumed. As always, moderation is the key to being healthy.
