Keeping Elderly People Safe With Cameras PDF Print E-mail
Latest Health News

New medical invention has lead to an ingenious way to examining the bowel system. The camera pill, swallowed and passed through the bowel, enables doctors to see the bowel without invasive procedures. Some doctors worried about the efficacy of the pill camera in the aging population so researchers set out to test the pill on all aged populations.

A recent study examined 120 pill users ranging in ages from 40 to 65 +. In the study, participants used the pill camera as a means of examining the bowel system. In all age groups, the efficacy rate averaged a little more than 79%. This result included the oldest of participants.

During the study, 4 tumors were detected, all in the oldest participants. Older participants also showed more lesions than the other sectors of the population.

Thanks to the study, doctors are now more confident than ever that their older patients will tolerate the pill camera procedure just as well as a younger patient.
