According to a small study of 27 women, the normal everyday Exercise may not be what you need to trim down that body fat. While exercise of any kind is beneficial to the body, when it comes to achieving that rock hard physique, normal exercise does not cut the abs.

Twenty-seven study participants, all of whom were middle aged and obese women, wanted to change how they looked. The women were broken into three groups. The first group exercises with great intensity and the second group exercised with lower intensity, the third group was a control group that added no exercise at all. At the end of the study, the higher intensity group showed a significant loss of fat on the midsection of the body while the lower intensity group showed no such changes.

While the more fat lost on the belly seems great for that smaller pants size, the real benefits happy in the body. Ab fat has been shown to be a marked factor in increased blood pressure, Diabetes and heart disease. The more fat reduction at the midline, the greater the reduction of future chance of getting one of these conditions.

After 16 weeks on the program, the higher intensity group had lost, on average, 2 inches of visceral fat. Visceral fat is the fat surrounding the internal organs of the body. This fat is thought to be more dangerous than an external fat due to the pressure placed on the internal organs.

The higher intensity group did not participate in professional athlete workouts. Depending on the current physical state, the intensity was unique to each woman.
