Researchers have been working hard on a study that links the condition of Obesity and Dementia. In this research, a person who is middle aged and obese has triple the risk of senility in their old age.
The research does not end with the issue of weight. It was found that it isn’t necessarily the amount of weight you are carrying on your body, but where you carry your weight. This is important for those who are middle aged and carry a lot of excess weight around their belly.
For those who are at risk for this problem, there is hope. With a good diet and
Exercise, those affected will be able to lose weight and reduce the risk of senility due to obesity, along with reducing other health problems that are caused by excess weight.
The study not only targeted people who are classified as overweight and obese, but studied middle aged people who carry around excess weight in the belly. The study used people between the ages of forty and forty-five who had their abdominal fat measured in the early seventies. Within the last ten years, the measurements of abdominal fat was taken again once they reached their seventies.
Sixteen percent of those in the study developed dementia. Those who had developed dementia were found to have had a large amount of abdominal fat in their forties. This means that there is a 3.6 times greater chance of developing dementia when you have excess belly fat in your forties. Even after all of the statistics were adjusted to take in account other health problems, the effects of belly fat still remained relevant.
If you feel that you may be at a higher risk of dementia because of excess belly fat, just adopting a moderate exercise routine into your daily life will greatly reduce your risk of dementia from abdominal fat.
